Simple to use and simple to setup. Mailchimp gives you all the tools you need for an email campaign, but keeps it easy to use.
I don't think there is a downside. I've been using it for over a year, and it hasn't let me down.
It allows me to communicate with my mailing lists and lets me know if I have any spam issues.
What is most helpful is how structured and organized the platform is. Very clear audience management combined with diverse email marketing tools.
Sometimes there are cookie issues on the website. There will be a 404 error where I have to go and clear cookies before resuming my Mailchimp experience.
We are able to control many different emai flows and campaigns from one platform. We can go in a lot of directions swiftly and that wouldn't be possible without Mailchimp.

there are not many downsides - it integrates with nearly everything and you can even use it for your website order emails (rather than using the un-inspiring format youre usually presented with)
all my email marketing is in one place. it helps with mailer stats so I can see how each marketing attempt compares with each other and I can then adapt based on my results.

Although I know Intuit's acquisition of Mailchimp probably allowed for the company to offer a more robust suite of services, that type of affiliation made me weary about my trust in Mailchimp because they got involved with a seemingly random banking organization.

I love all the options, but having so many options with a human to sorry you is sitting and overwhelming. Tutorials get you to the first step, but not other steps

There aren't a lot of issues with Mailchimp. Personally, I found the experience pretty smooth. Although, it would be nice if it was possible to make the mails even more personalised with special fonts and customized settings.

Most of the tools are already available on MailChimp's free plan, and you are allowed to send 10,000 emails to 2,000 of your subscribers, which is genuinely an awesome deal, in my opinion. It also has a clean interface, and navigating from one tool to another is fairly simple as well.
Mailchimp recently removed the email scheduling feature from its free forever plan, which was highly disappointing. The pricing model is not well-balanced. The service gets costlier.

I love the ability to duplicate campaigns. Since we send out a weekly update, it's great to not have to start from scratch each week. I just duplicate last week's update and edit it for the current week.
