Without a developer, you cannot use Magento. This is not a plug-and-play solution for someone who wants to build their own website themselves without a developer - this is one where a developer will be required.

I run an eCommerce site on Magento and find it to be great. I like being able to look at the site as though it were an iPhone capable of having apps (extensions) added or removed at any time. It's rare that you find yourself in a situation where you get 8 out of 10 things you like, while getting stuck with 2 things you don't like.

The open source platform provides complete flexibility for customization. The large user base generates plenty of forums and resources for problem solving & troubleshooting. There is also a large number of free or inexpensive extensions that allow for quick and easy customization.

Magento tends to run slower than average for ecommerce platforms. Load time directly impacts conversion rate, so this is always something we are trying to improve on.

Since there is so much that can be done the initial setup can be quite exhausting because there are a lot of changes design and use that can be applied including a lot of set up on products to be able to maintain, but once you are set up it is meant to be quite autonomous

Magento Commerce is the engine that runs our ecommerce website. We use it to manage a huge catalog of products, create new products, create and edit our product pages, set up shipping and pricing promotions, etc. Magento Commerce also allows us to create custom extensions to solve for solutions that would otherwise need to be handled by third party software.

Magento Commerce can be incredibly overwhelming for a new user. Training new users can be pretty time consuming. Once users get used to it, they are able to train others, but the initial learning curve is pretty steep.

Magento Commerce runs our website. That is about the biggest business problem we could have. Without Magento, our site would not run as smoothly as it does. We interface with many third party products as well as develop custom solutions for issues within Magento. We are able to manage a huge catalog of products without requiring a huge team to handle it.

I liked the interface of the program - it is very quick to load up for the day, and encounters very few technical issues. It is very useful in going in to change inventory levels and fix issues that arise in programs that rely on Magento.

Although it is a positive that so much is customizable on Magento, sometimes it can be confusing or overwhelming at times. This just means that more training is required for someone to feel comfortable using the program to its fullest potential, which is not really a negative.
